The third yoghurt — why we keep buying duplicates

You unpack the shopping bags and there it is: the third yoghurt. Or the second pack of rice that was already in the cupboard. Not because you were careless — but because, while shopping, nobody knows exactly what is still in the fridge at home.
Putting a number on the problem
10.9 million tonnes of food are thrown away in Germany every year. 58 % of it comes from private households — not shops or restaurants. That works out at around 75 kilograms per person per year.
Almost a quarter of it ends up in the bin because the best-before date has passed — even though much of it would still have been fine.

It is rarely intentional. There is a gap in what we know: in the shop, we cannot see inside our own cupboard.
What actually helps
You do not need a new shopping system or a spreadsheet nobody keeps up to date. Record your stock once, then keep it updated as you use and buy food.
That is what BiteFresh helps with: photograph a receipt, scan a barcode or briefly say what you are adding. Review the recognised items; the app organises your stock by traffic lights and expiry dates.
In the shop, a glance at your phone is enough: what is left, what expires soon and what is actually missing.
What this looks like day to day
- Capture — through receipt, barcode, photo or voice
- Prioritise — traffic lights show what to check first
- Shop — add what is actually missing to your list
No trick, just a clearer picture
No financial crash diet, no guilt — just the overview that is otherwise missing when you shop. BiteFresh is free to get started, with optional Premium for more features.
